Simulation of the early universe in a Bose-Einstein condensate

Schematic representation of the principle behind the experiment. A laser excites a crystal defect in a sheet of hBN, composed of boron atoms (in red) and nitrogen atoms (in blue). The emitted photons are separated from the reflected laser using a polariser. These photons, emitted under resonant excitation, have properties that are particularly favourable for quantum information.
