Beyond Waste 2027

Recycling is a multidisciplinary field of research that encompasses chemistry, physics, and computer science, as well as law, economics, social sciences, and more. To address this significant societal challenge and propose effective solutions, it is essential to adopt a holistic approach—from materials to systems, and from atoms to actions. Beyond Waste 2027 is an international scientific conference to be held in Lille, France, from March 16 to 18, 2027. It will bring together experts from around the world to discuss research topics related to recycling, eco-design, and material circularity.

Beyond Waste 2027 call for papers is open

It will bring together experts from all around the world to discuss research topics related to recycling, eco-design, and material circularity. This event will offer parallel sessions addressing topics related to materials (plastics, composite materials, strategic metals, textiles, and paper/cardboard), as well as sector-specific issues (WEEE, new energy technologies—photovoltaic, wind, hydrogen, batteries, and household waste) and interdisciplinary topics with input from digital technology and the humanities and social sciences. Plenary conferences will also cover broader and more general topics related to politics, economics, and environmental issues.

Supported by the National research program PEPR Recycling, Recyclability, and Reuse of Materials, which brings together more than 300 scientists from nearly 100 laboratories across France, Beyond Waste aims to establish an international research network on these issues. During the three days of the symposium, the goal is to bring together the scientific community from around the world and showcase the diversity and richness of research on recycling and the circular economy of materials, which cannot be resolved through a single scientific discipline.
